Pointcast and International Network Services will go public this year

NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Investors looking for the next hot initial public offering in the technology sector won't have to wait long.
Tony Perkins, editor of The Red Herring, a newsletter specializing in technology, told CNNfn Friday that despite a lull in IPO activity for tech stocks, there'll be some hot new issues for sale starting in September.
Specifically, Perkins mentioned Pointcast, which is widely-known for its news-service screen saver, and International Network Service, a network consulting group, as two that investors should look out for.
Both, said Perkins, will register their initial public offerings soon.
But this next wave of IPOs won't be like earlier ones, he cautioned. The postponement of the initial public offering of Wired Ventures, he believes, can stand as a warning.
"The market has been volatile to the point that people are shying away from putting their companies out. We'll no longer see these concept deals going out too early. IPO valuations are going to come down to reality. But I don't think we'll see a slowdown go much beyond the summer."
All in all, Perkins thinks that the tech sector industry is still in strong shape.
"The fundamentals of the whole technology industry are still strong," he said. "And the real growth opportunity in the near term is on the Intranet, with business-to-business type companies."
