NEW YORK (CNNfn) -- Kiwi International Air Lines announced Thursday it will return to scheduled service between Newark, Chicago, Atlanta and West Palm Beach, Fla. on January 20.
The airline filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in September, following a series of events that began with the deadly May crash of a ValuJet plane, a Kiwi competitor.
The company subsequently suspended its service on October 15.
After halting operations, the bankrupt Kiwi secured $5 million in financing from the Wasatch Group, and says it expects to receive an additional $10 to $20 million.
Kiwi laid off more than 400 workers after it filed for bankruptcy. The company said it will call back between 450-550 employees in restarting service.
The discount airline's chief executive Jerry Murphy had expected the airline to be operating in November.Back to top
