Many leading content providers, including CNNfn, Hearst's HomeArts Network, CBS SportsLine and Time Inc. New Media will support Netcaster technology. Software companies such as Diffusion Inc., FireFly Network Inc. and Net Perceptions have also announced support for Netcaster's "push" functions.
Content providers and developers can use existing content and standards such as HTML, Java and JavaScript to develop material for information channels.
"Netscape Netcaster is a natural evolution for the thousands of content providers, distributors and developers who are already using HTML, Java and JavaScript to build Web content," said Mike Homer, senior vice president of marketing at Netscape.
"Now, they can easily re-purpose their existing content to create and deliver best of breed dynamic channels directly to a subscriber's desktop,"
Through Netcaster, content providers will enable their subscribers to stay up-to-date using automated delivery, to receive more personalized content, to view information online or off-line and to operate on multiple platforms.
