Nynex executive will replace Cabletron founder Robert Levine

NEW YORK (CNNfn) - A top executive at Nynex will become chief executive at Cabletron Systems Inc., confirming reports on Wednesday that the Cabletron founder is resigning from the troubled company.
Nynex's Don Reed will take the Cabletron job effective Sept. 1, Nynex said Wednesday.
Cabletron will announce the resignation of chief executive Robert Levine at a press conference Wednesday, according to press reports.
Reed has been president and group executive for external affairs and corporate communications at Nynex since January 1995.
Levine is leaving in the first step of an expected corporate shakeup at Cabletron, which is based in Rochester, N.H., the Wall Street Journal reported.
Levine's offbeat management style clashed with the staid environment of computer networking equipment, the Journal reported.
Some analysts said Levine's departure, which is voluntary, would allow Cabletron to regain the market share it has lost in recent years to companies such as Cisco Systems Inc.
Levine founded the company in 1983 in his garage.
