Computer maker says lower costs for components allow cuts up to 15 %
|
NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Dell Computer Corp. said Thursday it is cutting prices on its OptiPlex line of computers sold in the United States by as much as 15 percent - due in part to the weakness in Asian economies.
OptiPlex models are designed specially for businesses and corporate networks.
Dell also said it is cutting prices on its WorkStation 400 line with 300-megahertz MMX Pentium II processors from Intel Corp. by as much as $200.
Dell said that because most of its customers are outside Asia and most of its components come from the region, most customers will benefit from the reduced cost for parts.
The reductions will drive the cost of a system with a 300-megahertz Pentium II processor, 32 megabytes of memory, 2.1 gigabytes of hard disk space, CD-ROM and monitor from $2,746 to $2,338.
