Maiden voyage of Disney Magic is delayed for the second time
|
NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Construction delays have forced Walt Disney Co. to postpone for the second time the maiden voyage of its new cruise ship, the company said Wednesday.
Construction of the Disney Magic fell behind schedule after supplier shortages and poor weather conditions backed up work at the Italian shipyard Fincantieri, which is building the deluxe ship.
The launch, which originally was set for mid-March and later rescheduled for April 30, now has been pushed back to July 30. Disney Cruise Lines plans to rebook affected customers at a discounted rate or offer them a full refund.
"We will continue to work with the shipyard to overcome any problems and to ensure the ship meets its new maiden voyage date," Disney Cruise Line President Arthur Rodney said.
The ship is scheduled to cruise the Bahamas, catering to guests of all ages.
