IBM expands notebook line

Big Blue targets home and small business users for new ThinkPads

NEW YORK (CNNfn) - IBM announced that it is expanding its ThinkPad notebook line with four new models to serve home and small business customers.
Included in the new line of portable computers is a model for less than $1,600.
IBM said it expanded the ThinkPad line to serve customers who use their computers for both work and home. The company said all the units are available now.
On the low end, the ThinkPad 310ED, priced at $1,599, includes an Intel Pentium 166MHz processor, 32 MB of RAM, and a 2.1 GB hard drive. IBM is targeting the 310ED for families and students as well as small business professionals.
Pricing for the ThinkPad 380XD and 385XD models, based on 233MHz or 266MHz processors, and the 200MHz ThinkPad 560X, begin at $2,499.
The ThinkPad 385XD and 310ED models are available through retail outlets such as CompUSA and Computer City, while the 380XD and 560X models are sold through authorized IBM resellers.
