NEW YORK (CNNfn) - The American Automobile Association picked 11 vehicles out of 180 on Tuesday as its top car picks for 1999, the group said.
The models fall under 11 different vehicle classes, and represent the "best balance of performance, quality and value," according to AAA spokesman David Van Sickle, editor of the AAA Autograph Book where these awards will be listed.
The top scoring 1999 cars are:
Under $15,000 -- Toyota Corolla CE
$15,000-$20,000 -- Chevrolet Malibu
$20,000-$25,000 -- Oldsmobile Intrigue
$25,000-$30,000 -- Acura 3.2 TL
$30,000-$35,000 -- BMW 328i
$35,000-$40,000 -- Saab 9-5 Wagon
$40,000-$50,000 -- Lexus GS 400
More than $50,000 -- Mercedes S500
Minivan -- Ford Windstar LX
Sport Utility Vehicle under $25,000 -- Subaru Forester
Sport Utility Vehicle over $25,000 -- Jeep Grand Cherokee
To evaluate cars for the Autograph Book, AAA tests them under everyday driving conditions. The Mercedes S500 was the highest scoring car in this year's book, and the Toyota Corolla, Subaru Forester and Lexus GS 400 were the only repeat selections.
