NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Fashion designer Calvin Klein Inc. has canceled a controversial children's underwear advertising campaign that some groups thought promoted pedophilia.
The ad, which appeared in Wednesday's newspapers, features a black and white photograph of boys and girls playing in Calvin Klein underwear. A billboard with the photographs was also planned for New York's Times Square.
But the campaign was pulled after some groups complained the campaign could encourage pedophiles.
"The comments and reaction that we have received today raised issues that we had not fully considered," the company said in a statement that apologized for the ads.
Calvin Klein contended the ads intended to show children smiling, laughing and just being themselves.
"We wanted to capture the same warmth and spontaneity that you find in a family snap-shot," the company said. Back to top
