Software giant to cross license video games with Japan's Konami Co.
|
NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Microsoft Corp. and Konami Co. Ltd. formed a cross-licensing agreement Tuesday under which the two companies will publish each other's video game titles on a variety of platforms.
Tokyo-based Konami will publish select Microsoft (MSFT) games for the Sony (SNE) Playstation, Sega Dreamcast and Nintendo 64 consoles. Microsoft, in turn, will publish Konami games for the personal computer.
"This agreement allows us to make our games available to all gamers across multiple platforms for the first time," said Ed Fries, general manager of the Microsoft games division.
The companies will announce specific product releases and availability later this year.
Konami's game titles include NBA in the Zone, NHL Blades of Steel and Castlevania. Microsoft publishes Baseball 2000, Flight Simulator and Monster Truck Madness 2, among other games.
Microsoft shares were up 7/16 at 80-1/8 in afternoon trading.
