drkoop gets healthy start

Online health-care network led by former surgeon general rises 39 percent

NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Online health-care network drkoop.com, a group of Web sites led by former U.S. Surgeon General C. Everett Koop, jumped 39 percent Tuesday morning in its first day of trading.
     Shares of drkoop.com (KOOP) rose to 12-1/2, up 3-1/2 from an offering price of $9. The Austin, Texas-based company raised $84.4 million in the offering.
     drkoop.com provides health-care information and services, including online pharmacies, health-care related news and interactive communities.
     The site has garnered more than 280,000 registered users and 6 million unique visitors since its launch last July.
     Bear Stearns & Co. (BSC), Hambrecht & Quist (HQ) and Wit Capital Corp. (WITC) acted as underwriters of drkoop.com's IPO. Back to top
