NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Internet investment firm CMGI plans to make an announcement Tuesday related to Compaq Computer Corp.'s AltaVista unit, sources said.
While the sources declined to elaborate on the specifics of the announcement, published reports last week said CMGI would pay up to $3 billion in stock for a controlling stake in AltaVista and two other Compaq Web sites.
AltaVista came bundled with Digital Equipment Corp., for which Compaq paid $8.4 billion in 1998. That large acquisition continues to hurt Compaq's bottom line.
Shares of Compaq were unchanged at 22-5/16 Monday, while CMGI was up 3-7/16 to 97-11/16. Back to top
