Healtheon/WebMD acquiring medical news service for $215M
|
NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Internet medical information firm Healtheon Corp. continued its acquiring ways Thursday, announcing a $215 million purchase of Greenberg News Networks Inc.
Healtheon, which in May agreed to merge with WebMD Inc. in a stock deal valued at $3.9 billion, said it will purchase all outstanding stock, options and warrants of Greenberg, a privately-held medical news service.
Greenberg, based in Atlanta, provides original news stories to customers on a subscription basis.
Healtheon (HLTH) and WebMD link up 65,000 physicians and 450 insurance firms and allow them to exchange medical and claims information and make transactions.
Santa Clara, Calif.-based Healtheon plans to use Greenberg's news to add to WebMD's medical information services.
WebMD has a partnership to provide content to CNN.com and CNN has a minority stake in WebMD.
