Net analyst Bill Burnham joins billion-dollar investment fund
|
NEW YORK (CNNfn) - One of the better-known names in Internet investing is joining Softbank's new investment group.
Bill Burnham, 28, vice president and research analyst for electronic commerce with Credit Suisse First Boston's Technology Group, has been named a partner in Softbank Capital LP, a $1.25 billion investment fund.
The fund is controlled largely by Softbank Corp., the Tokyo-based investment company with holdings in more than 100 Internet companies including Yahoo and e*Trade.
Burnham will be involved in investment decisions and oversee the formation of a small group of Internet analysts within the new company, according to published reports.
Burnham's high-profile status helped CSFB attract many Internet companies who were looking to raise funds through initial public offerings.
"We are absolutely delighted that Bill has decided to join Softbank Capital Partners," said Ronald D. Fisher, managing general partner. "Bill's comprehensive industry knowledge and unique insights into the evolution of the Internet economy and e-commerce will be a invaluable asset to us in identifying the new market leaders."
Prior to joining CSFB, Burnham was an analyst at both Deutsche Morgan Grenfell and Piper Jaffray Inc.
