Maximize travel time and money by seizing the opportunity in every trip

NEW YORK (CNNfn) - When you are making plans to attend a conference, meeting or trade show across the country, maximize your travel dollars by arranging appointments with people before and after the big event.
People heading to a meeting often forget to check their Rolodex or PalmPilot to remind themselves of other business contacts in the area.
I've also found that the further you travel, the more willing people are to meet with you -- especially if you offer to buy them breakfast at YOUR hotel.
I also try to stretch out my business trips whenever possible. I fly out a day early, especially if I'm crossing time zones. I try to schedule a relaxed dinner with a friend or colleague the night before the meeting and often stay over an extra day for more meetings, or to explore the area.
We all know that staying over a Saturday night is usually required for a cheaper airfare, so consider your extra days away a money-saver for your company.
