Let your clients know who you are: Wear your company title with pride

NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Dear Jane: I publish newsletters. My question concerns titles. I have no problem calling myself the editor of the newsletter. However, with the other projects, it's different. "President" seems rather presumptuous for a one-person company that doesn't plan to grow much bigger.
In today's world, very small companies are doing very big things with few people and few resources. Clients want talent and are learning that they can save money by dealing with smaller firms.
If you are the president of your company, it makes sense to proudly use that title. Your clients don't care that the company consists of you and your cat -- they just want your newsletter to arrive on time and give them the information they need to succeed.
Although it's OK to let your clients know you are home-based, I do recommend against holding meetings at your home. If you have to meet with a client or prospective client, make reservations at the best restaurant in town, or meet for tea or cocktails at a hotel bar.
I frequently rent hotel suites to host meetings with clients. It's worth the cost to host an important meeting in a quiet, elegant setting.
