Xybernaut causes investor excitement with new patent
|
NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Xybernaut Corp. dominated after-hours trading Wednesday as investors reacted enthusiastically to news that the company had received a U.S. patent for its "breakthrough" personal computing device.
Xybernaut (XYBR: Research, Estimates) was the most active issue on MarketXT, rising 1-3/16 to 24-15/16, while it closed at No. 3 on Island ECN, rising 1/2 to close at 24-1/4.
The company said the core unit would enable "mobile convergence," allowing users to access information without using separate devices such as PDAs, desktop PCs, laptops, cell phones and pagers.

Lucent technologies stocks jumped in afternoon trading following the announcement that the company plans to spin off three of its poorer-performing businesses. Lucent (LU: Research, Estimates) rose 1/8 to 68-3/4.
3Coms (COMS: Research, Estimates) enjoyed a good rally in after hours trading. 3Com rose 4-7/8 on MarketXT to 110, and declared the final IPO target for its Palm unit at $38 per share.
Gensym (GNSM: Research, Estimates) shares soared in afternoon trading with news of an original-equipment-manufacturer agreement with Nokia. GNSM rose 11 points to 17 on Island.

Shares of the leading nationwide provider of dental practice management software Medical Dynamics, Inc. (MEDY: Research, Estimates) were the most-active on Island but with no news released by the company. MEDY gained 11/16 to close at 1-27/32.
