President Fred Kleisner elevated to chief executive as hotelier continues transition
|
NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Wyndham International Inc. on Monday said it named president Fred Kleisner as the upscale hotel and resort operator's chief executive officer, replacing James Carreker, who will stay on as chairman.
Kleisner will retain his position as president of Dallas-based Wyndham, a $2 billion company whose three operating divisions, Grand Bay Hotels & Resorts, the Wyndham Hotel Group, and Management Services, represent a combined portfolio of 311 hotels.
"We believe that Kleisner is the right leader for Wyndham as it enters the next stage in its corporate history," said Milton Fine, a director of the company, in a statement.
Kleisner joined Wyndham in July 1999, after serving as president and chief operating officer of Starwood Hotels & Resorts' Americas Hotel Group.
At one time a real estate investment trust, Wyndham has been shedding units and making changes aimed at focusing on its core luxury and upscale brands. Just one week ago, Wyndham sold its Sierra Suites Hotel brand, properties and related assets to Sierra Suites Hotel Co. LP.
The company also said it shuffled some other executives, including the resignations of chief investment officer Anne Raymond, and named David Johnson, president of the Wyndham hotel division, as executive vice president, sales and marketing, a new position.
