Mutual fund assets grow

Fund assets up 4.2% in February on heels of strong investments in stock funds

NEW YORK (CNNfn) - U.S. mutual fund assets increased 4.2 percent in February on the heels of strong investments in stock funds.
Combined assets in the nation's funds totaled $7.06 trillion, Investment Company Institute, a Washington trade group, reported on Thursday.
Stock fund assets increased by $269.20 billion to $4.22 trillion. Net new cash flow was $53.55 billion, up from a revised figure of $40.9 billion in January.
Taxable and municipal bond funds grew by $2.85 billion. These funds had a combine outflow of $7.78 billion in February.
Cash flow to stocks invested in international companies skyrocketed to $18.04 billion from $12.19 billion in January.
Gains in these sectors were lessened by a decline in growth finds to $11.09 billion from $12.58 billion in January.
Outflows from hybrid funds also declined in February to $5.39 billion from
$6.53 billion a month earlier.
