Michigan-based Bissell announces a recall of its upright vacuum cleaners
|
NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Bissell Homecare Inc., in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, is recalling about 207,000 PowerCleanTM and PureAirTM upright vacuum cleaners.
The Grand Rapids, Mich.-based company said the power cord insulation can tear where the cord attaches to the vacuum, exposing bare wires. This poses a risk of shock and burns to consumers.
Bissell is aware of 54 reports of the cords on these vacuums tearing, and there has been one report of a consumer suffering a burn injury on her hand.
The recall includes one model of the Bissell PowerClean vacuum and three models of the PureAir vacuum cleaners.
The PowerClean vacuum is black and has model number 3540-1, and other model numbers are 3540-2, 3541, and 3541-P.
The model number is located on a label on the back of the vacuum, and these recalled items do not have a 3-inch plastic flex relief where the power cord enters the vacuum handle.
Consumers may have purchased these vacuums at discount, appliance or department stores from July 1998 through March 2000.
Retailers cannot repair these vacuums, so consumers should stop using these vacuum cleaners immediately, and contact Bissell at (888) 445-6688.
