NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Advanced Micro Devices Inc. said it expects to post record sales for its fiscal first quarter, ended April 2.
The company, which makes semiconductors, expects revenue to increase approximately 10 percent to $1.06 billion, based on strong sales growth across all product lines, Chairman and CEO W.J. Saunders III said.
Speaking at a news conference in Tokyo celebrating AMD's 25 anniversary in Japan, Saunders said AMD (AMD: Research, Estimates) had surpassed its goal of selling at least 1.2 million Athlon processors during the quarter.
graphic"We believe we continued to gain unit share worldwide last quarter in the PC processor segment," Sanders said. "Our PC processor unit market share in Japan, at more than 20 percent, is somewhat higher than our worldwide share, reflecting our participation in all segments of the Japanese market -- consumer, commercial and mobile."
The company will report first-quarter results April 12.
AMD reported a net loss of $128,367,000 on revenue of $631,593,000 for its 1999 first quarter, ended March 28, 1999. Those results include a charge of $15,016,000 for restructuring and other special charges. Without the restructuring and charges, the net loss would have been 81 cents per share. Back to top
