Ventilation system blower-motor control could develop electrical short
|
NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) recalled 7,100 model-year 2000 S-Class sedans and CL500s built since Jan. 26 to replace a blower motor control that could develop an electrical short.
Mercedes said it will replace the blower control, which regulates the interior climate, in all the vehicles though only a small number are likely to develop the problem.
The recall affects about 26,000 vehicles worldwide.
The electrical short could cause surrounding plastic, insulation, and wiring to melt and possibly burn. There have been seven incidents, but no injuries or accidents have been reported as a result.
Mercedes is notifying owners of all affected vehicles to contact their dealer to schedule a free replacement. The regulator, located just in front of the glove box, can be replaced in less than an hour.
Mercedes-Benz retailers also will provide additional services such as washing and refueling vehicles and free alternate transportation will be arranged if necessary.
The updated regulators are being installed in current production.
