Plenty of Net companies are looking for 'grownups' to round out their staff

NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Dear Jane: I'm a 56-year-old woman who has worked for my present aerospace industry employer for 15 years. I'm interested in training for a new high-tech career through a certificate program. I have no technical experience, but I want to learn new things. Do you think a high-tech company would hire an older woman? My company won't promote me without a formal degree.
In today's super-tight labor market, I think many employers have to cast a much wider net when they look for talent. In fact, hundreds of new Internet companies are scrambling to hire "grownups" to round out their management teams and talent pools.
If you take an accredited course and receive a certificate saying you are qualified to network computers or write software, I don't think age should be a barrier. Make sure you take the best classes possible and work hard to obtain a letter of recommendation from your instructor.
Business owners need talent and shouldn't be worried about age.
