NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Opportunities fostered in regular trade as well as late-day earnings announcements spurred on investors in the after-hours.
Following today's announcement of better than expected fiscal fourth quarter profits, shares of Oracle Corp. (ORCL: Research, Estimates) dropped 2-39/64 to 83-7/16 as the most active issue on MarketXT and 2-21/32 to 83-3/8 on Island ECN. The drop was attributed to lower than expected growth in database revenue for the world's number two software company.
Shares of Digital Island (ISLD: Research, Estimates) rocketed up 31 percent in regular trade following news that the network services provider will form what it is calling the largest online streaming media venture in the world. Linux player Red Hat (RHAT: Research, Estimates) shot up 19 percent in the regular trade following news that it had expanded its relationship with Dell Computer. The two companies will create the One Source Alliance, a program which will speed up commercial adoption of the Linux system. After knocking it down throughout the evening, traders on Island ECN leveled the stock off at a steady 30-3/16.
Intel (INTC: Research, Estimates)'s announcement that it will take a $200 million charge in the second quarter to cover the costs of a defect in its motherboards sent shares of the stock down 1-3/16 to 137-1/8 on Market XT.
Chipmaker Rambus (RMBS: Research, Estimates) on Monday licensed a number of its products to Japan's Toshiba Corporation. After rising 3-9/16 to 94-13/16 in the regular day's trade, the stock dropped 1-3/16 to 93-5/8 on Island ECN.
