Reinforce support of the group, build confidence, avoid playing favorites

NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Although you may have one or two superstars on your team, be sure to publicly recognize a group of your employees when giving praise on a project.
When you reward a group, it reinforces your support of the team effort, and the importance of collaboration. Let people know that your door is always open for a conversation about personal management or employee issues.
If your employees feel comfortable sharing their concerns, you can defuse office tensions before they become potentially serious conflicts. Avoid overly praising one employee, even if they deserve it.
Remember, the "lone superstar" also has to work with the team. Special favorites can take a toll on employee morale. Check in with your staff regularly, and try to be sensitive about possible issues or conflicts.
