NEW YORK (CNNfn) - The Dow Jones industrial average slipped moderately Tuesday morning, with financial issues among the blue chip component's weaker sectors.

The sell-off of major financials accelerated after the release of a government report showing a sharp increase in July new home sales.

Around 11:15 a.m. ET, the Dow industrials lagged by 48.84 at 11,204.00. The Nasdaq composite index edged down 6.29 to 4,064.30, while the S&P 500 dropped 6.71 to 1,507.38. Back to top
