NEW YORK (CNNfn) - The number of Americans who buy cars on the Internet is expected to zoom ahead in the next few years.

One Internet research group predicts sales will top more than 1.3 million in 2004 from just 17,000 vehicles in 1999. That represents 8 percent of the U.S. market. The best reasons for buying car or truck on-line are speed and simplicity. A few minutes can give you a good idea of the price and the specifications of the model you want. But make sure that you arrange a test drive.
