NEW YORK (CNNfn) - The power of credit can be very seductive, but it also can be dangerous. It appears that more and more young adults are using credit cards.

According to the nation's largest non-profit provider of student loans,  60 percent of college students have at least one credit card and carry an average balance of more than $1,800. There are steps students can take to avoid getting into trouble in the first place.
