NEW YORK (CNNfn) - NBC Internet, the online unit of the NBC television network, on Friday said that its president and chief operating officer, Edmond Sanctis, plans to resign from NBCi to pursue other interests.

NBC Internet said no replacement would be named. The company revamped its organization this summer, refocusing its efforts and combining its different properties, including Xoom.com and Snap.com, under the NBC Internet brand in hopes of moving toward a profit more swiftly.

graphic"As we've streamlined the company together, it has become evident there is overlap between our two positions," said Sanctis, referring to NBCi chief executive Will Lansing, whom he praised in a statement.

General Electric Co.'s (GE: Research, Estimates) NBC holds a 39.3 percent stake in NBCi (NBCI: Research, Estimates).

Earlier this week, the San Francisco-based company said it would merge its AllBusiness.com small-business services unit with Bigvine Inc. to form a new company in which it would hold a 49 percent stake. It cited a renewed focus on the U.S. mass-market Internet audience.

The company, whose shares have plummeted more than 90 percent from the end of January, has lost several high-level executives in recent months. Chief Executive Chris Kitze resigned in March and was replaced by William Lansing. John Harbottle resigned in May as chief financial officer and was replaced by Anthony Altig.

NBCi shares closed on Friday at $5.19, up 38 cents from Thursday's close. Back to top
