NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Fall is a good time to find a student intern to help you update your data base, organize your supply closet or update your Web site.

Interns can provide you with free or low-cost help, while gaining real-life experience in the business world.

Call your local high school or community college to post a notice.

If working with students doesn't appeal to you, advertise in your local paper for a retired person to give you a hand.

Seniors tend to be experienced, flexible and willing to work for less because they want to stay active and involved.

(Jane Applegate, a syndicated columnist and author of 201 Great Ideas for Your Small Business, covers small business for CNNfn.)
