Nationally sold nightlights by Dura Kleen pose shock, fire hazard
|
NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Dura Kleen (USA) Inc. is recalling 459,000 nightlights which pose a shock and fire hazard to consumers.
The product's electrical connections are loose, they are made from flammable plastic and the power switch does not work, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
From March 1999 through August 2000, the nightlights were through discount stores nationwide for about $1. Neither Dura Kleen, of Brooklyn, N.Y., nor the CPSC are aware of injuries associated with the nightlights.
The nightlights consist of a small light fixture that uses a 5-watt bulb that plugs into a wall electrical outlet.
The light bulb white bases are imprinted with "Made in China for Dura Kleen USA Inc."
The night lights have different colored shades, including purple, green, yellow and red, with different designs. Other lights have opaque decorative shades molded in the form of religious figures.
Consumers should stop using the nightlights immediately, and return them to the store where purchased for a refund. For more information, call CPSC at (800) 638-2772.
To report a dangerous product or a product-related injury, call CPSC's hotline at the number listed above, or CPSC's teletypewriter at (800) 638-8270. You can also visit CPSC's Web site at http://www.cpsc.gov/talk.html.
