Company's Happy Meal 'Scooter Bug' poses a choking hazard
|
NEW YORK (CNNfn) - McDonald's Corp., of Oakbrook, Ill., on Tuesday announced a recall of its Happy Meal Scooter Bug toy due to a choking hazard posed by the bug's antenna, which can be broken off.
McDonald's has received two reports of children choking and one report of a child gagging on a broken antenna.
The fast-food chain distributed the toys with Happy Meals from November 2000 through February 2001 in restaurants in the United States and Canada.
The Scooter Bug is about 3 inches long and 2-1/2 inches wide. When rolled on the floor, the bug's legs move back and forth. The bug has a yellow face, orange feet and a purple body with green spots. The words "Fisher Price" are on the top of the toy. The words "MFG.FOR MCD CORP.CHINA" are on the rear of the toy.
Parents should take the toys away from children immediately and return the product to any McDonald's restaurant for a replacement toy. Additional information about the recall is available on McDonald's Web site (www.mcdonalds.com) or by calling the U.S. Consumer Safety Commission at 800-638-2772.
