NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Information services provider Unisys Inc. reported first-quarter earnings which met analysts' expectations, but warned its second-quarter profit would be well below consensus estimates.
Unisys (UIS: Research, Estimates) reported first-quarter pro forma net income of $69.3 million, or 22 cents per share. Revenue for the quarter rose 6 percent from the year-ago period to $1.62 billion.
But the Blue Bell, Pa.-based company said uncertainty in the information technology sector means second-quarter earnings per share will be about half of second-quarter 2000 pro forma operating earnings per share, with modest revenue growth.
Unisys reported earnings of 18 cents per share in the second quarter of 2000. Analysts surveyed by First Call are currently expecting earnings of 25 cents per share.
The company added it expects earnings to "increase substantially" in the second half of 2001.
Unisys has been the center of takeover speculation for more than a year. Most recently, the company was rumored to be in talks in February.
Shares of the company remained unchanged at $13.70 after hours.
