Boeing gets $4B contract

Boeing lands Air Force C-130 avionics contract potentially worth $4 billion

NEW YORK (CNNfn) - The U.S. Air Force has selected Boeing Co. for its C-130 Avionics Modernization Program, a contract potentially worth $4 billion.

Boeing said Monday it will develop "a modern, common cockpit avionics system" for the approximately 500 C-130 transport aircraft in Air Force service.

Boeing (BA: Research, Estimates) said key suppliers to the program include Smith Industries, Northrop Grumman (NOC: Research, Estimates), Honeywell (HON: Research, Estimates), Rockwell Collins and Telephonics.

The contract must still be approved by the Defense Department's Defense Acquisition Board.

Shares of Boeing rose $1.03 to $66.03 Monday. graphic
