NEW YORK (CNNfn) - AOL Time Warner Inc. is in talks to buy IPC Media, which publishes such magazines as Marie Claire and Loaded, press reports said Thursday.

AOL and British-based IPC Media have been in talks for months, the Web site of the Financial Times said, which pegged the deal at $1.5 billion-to-$1.75 billion.

Cinven, the private equity group that controls IPC, wants to sell but is negotiating over price. Time Inc., a unit of AOL Time Warner, would acquire IPC's portfolio of more than 100 titles, the FT.com said.

A Time Inc. spokesman declined to comment. IPC, a leading British consumer publisher, was unavailable for comment.

If consummated, the acquisition would be the biggest move from AOL Time Warner since the creation of the media conglomerate last January.

New York-based AOL Time Warner (AOL: up $1.55 to $50.05, Research, Estimates) is the parent company of CNNfn.com. graphic
