Vivendi combines Web units

Puts all music, education, games, entertainment sites in one business.

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Vivendi Universal said Monday it has consolidated all of its U.S. Web-site businesses into a new unit, Vivendi Universal Net USA Group Inc.
Vivendi Universal (V: up $0.39 to $53.44, Research, Estimates) also named Robin Richards CEO of the new Los Angeles-based business, reporting to Philippe Germond, who is CEO of the company's Paris-based unit, Vivendi Universal Net.
Richards will direct Web sites for Vivendi's MP3.com, EMusic.com, GetMusic.com, RollingStone.com, Inside Sessions, Flipside, Uproar, Iwin, Virtual Vegas, and MP4 video enterprises, as well as the children and parent areas of Education.com.
The company also said that Vivendi Universal Net USA will provide online applications and infrastructure technologies to promotional sites that serve record labels, filmmakers, studios, games and education.
In announcing the consolidation, Vivendi said the new unit will aggregate about 36.5 million unique monthly visitors (U.S. only) that consume online entertainment and education.
In a press release announcing the move, Germond said: "With the formation of Vivendi Universal Net USA, we significantly enhance our potential of bringing world-class content from our business units into close alignment with our Internet organization."
