Gore, who has been teaching college courses since he narrowly lost the 2000 presidential election, will focus on developing private equity strategies in the biotechnology and information technology fields as well as explore international markets for MetWest.
"For nearly 25 years, I have worked on business and economic issues from the perspective of a public servant engaged in public policy," Gore said in a statement. "I am eager to learn more about business as an active executive."
The company said Gore will continue to teach at Fisk University in Nashville, Tenn., and at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tenn., despite his duties at the firm. He also will retain his research professorship at the University of California Los Angeles.
