    NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Merck & Co. said Thursday the U.S. Food & Drug Administration approved its injectable antibiotic.

    Merck said the FDA approved Invanz for once-a-day treatment for moderate to severe infections.

    The new drug combats many bacteria, making it an effective treatment for complicated infections, said Robin Isaacs, senior director for clinical research at Merck Research Labs, in a statement.

    Merck shares rose $1.50 to $66.85 on the New York Stock Exchange. graphic
