Maker of injectable drug products rises sharply on first day of trading.

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Share of American Pharmaceutical Partners Inc. jumped 21 percent Friday, the biggest gain of four initial public offering stocks making their debut.
American Pharmaceutical (APPX: Research, Estimates), which specializes in injectable pharmaceutical products, raised $144 million by pricing 9 million shares at $16 per share Thursday through lead underwriters CIBC World Markets.
United Defense Industries Inc. rose more than 4 percent after pricing 211 million shares at $19 per share Thursday night through Goldman Sachs and Lehman Brothers.
United Defense (UDI: up $0.35 to $19.35, Research, Estimates) makes and designs combat vehicles, naval guns and missile launchers. It also is a prime contractor on several U.S. military programs.
Biotech firm Northwest Biotherapeutics Inc. (NWBT: Research, Estimates) and Bruker AXS Inc. (BAXS: Research, Estimates), which provides x-ray systems, both rose slightly on their first day of trading.
