Bayer and GSK's anti-impotence pill accepted by Euro regulators for review.

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - GlaxoSmithKline PLC and Bayer AG said Thursday European regulators have agreed to review the marketing application for the companies' anti-importance medication and are expected to make a decision in the first half of 2003.
This is another step for the joint-marketed drug Vardenafil, which is expected to compete against Pfizer Inc.'s (PFE: Research, Estimates) Viagra in treating male sexual dysfunction.
Bayer (BAY: Research, Estimates) and GSK (GSK: Research, Estimates) said their application was accepted by the European Medicinal Evaluation Agency, and the drug is now under consideration for approval in all major markets.
Vardenafil was submitted to U.S. regulators in December and Bayer said 85 percent of men treated with the drug experience positive results. It was submitted for approval in Japan in September.
Eli Lilly & Co. (LLY: Research, Estimates) is also looking to get into the act with its erectile dysfunction treatment Cialis, which could be on the market at the end of this year.
