Six romantic retreats for newlyweds that suit every budget

NEW YORK - (CNN/Money) There are a couple of theories about how the honeymoon got its start.

By one account, grooms in Northern Europe kidnapped their brides and kept them in hiding until they became pregnant or until their families accepted the marriage. By another, newlyweds drank honey wine for a full lunar month to boost their fertility.

Fortunately, the honeymoon has evolved over the years. Today, newlyweds travel all over the world after the wedding, but with the goal of celebrating, relaxing and exploring new places.
