Apple Computer Inc. said Friday that Larry Ellison, the chairman and CEO of Oracle Corp., resigned from its board because he could not attend enough of its meetings.
"I will continue to offer my advice to [Apple CEO] Steve [Jobs] and the executive management team at Apple, but my schedule does not currently allow me to attend enough of the formal board meetings to warrant a role as director," Ellison said in a prepared statement.
Ellison, also one of the world's wealthiest individuals, served on Apple's board for five years.
Shares of Oracle (ORCL: Research, Estimates) fell 21 cents Thursday to close at $8.11 and Apple (AAPL: Research, Estimates) shares fell 44 cents Thursday to close at $14.58.
