NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Superstar Madonna will become the latest entertainer to lend a hand in Gap Inc.'s advertising campaign.

The ambitious Material Girl has agreed to appear in Gap's multimillion-dollar fall ad campaign featuring Gap clothes, the company told CNN/Money.

The world's largest clothing retailer has featured many well-known artists, including actor Dennis Hopper and singer Macy Gray, in its Gap-brand advertising.

Madonna will headline Gap's fall ad campaign. The pop diva last starred in the film "Swept Away," which earned less than $1 million in ticket sales.

"We always have celebrities in our campaigns, so it's just really being in line with what Gap has always done with its commercials," Gap spokeswoman Claudia Hawkins said.

The first television and print campaign for Gap's fall line is scheduled to run eight weeks, beginning July 27. The pop diva will be one of the featured artists, along with rap star Missy Elliott.

The second campaign will begin during the week of Sept. 7, Hawkins said.

The Gap-brand chain of Gap Inc. is showing some signs of life after a few years of declining sales. Madonna has been a cultural icon since her song "Like a Virgin" became a hit in 1984, and she is still going strong at age 45.

Neither Gap Inc. (GPS: Research, Estimates) nor Madonna's representative would disclose details of the financial agreement.  Top of page
