In another salvo against movie-rental chains, Walt Disney said Monday it will unveil an on-demand movie rental service called MovieBeam where movies are digitally transmitted into a customers home.
Disney said the service will cost $6.99 per month for an equipment service fee and a per movie viewing fee of $3.99 for new releases and $2.49 for older titles. Certain areas will also have a $29.99 activation fee.
The company said 100 titles will be available at a time, with ten new movies transmitted into a receiver made by Samsung each week.
The MovieBeam service has access to films released by DreamWorks, MGM, Miramax, New Line Cinema, Sony Pictures, Universal Studios, Warner Bros., 20th Century Fox and Walt Disney Studios.

New releases available for the week of Sept. 29th include "Lord of the Rings :The Two Towers," "Chicago," "Old School," and "Die Another Day." Older releases include "The Sixth Sense," "American Pie," and "Dead Poet's Society."
Disney (DIS: down $0.03 to $20.05, Research, Estimates) said it launched the service in Jacksonville, Fla.; Salt Lake City, Utah; and Spokane, Wash.
