NEW YORK (CNN/Money) -
Wall Street pushed the snooze button on Monday after several weeks of following corporate earnings, but a Dow stock added a different kind of flavor into an otherwise tame after-hours session.
After Monday's closing, InterMune (ITMN: Research, Estimates) stock fell after the drug developer said it would sell $150 million in convertible senior notes through a private placement offering.
The Brisbane, Calif.-based company said the notes, due 2011, would be convertible into common stock at a price to be determined.
InterMune shares fell to $18.51 on the INET electronic brokerage system from a close at $19.35 in regular trade on Nasdaq.
But investors would likely pay more attention to a Dow component, which announced plans to raise its quarterly dividend.
3M (MMM: Research, Estimates) said late Monday it plans to raise its dividend 9.1 percent to 36 cents a share, citing a strong balance sheet.
The dividend is payable on March 12 to shareholders of record as of Feb. 20. Dividends paid to 3M shareholders topped $1 billion for the first time in 2003, and 3M expects to pay out another $1 billion in dividends to shareholders in 2004, the diversified manufacturer said.
Separately, May Department Stores (MAY: Research, Estimates) said the chairmen of two of its department store chains would retire June 1, both after 34 years with the company.
The department store operator said Clarence "Bud" Reynolds, chairman of Lord & Taylor, would be succeeded by Richard Clausing, who is currently senior vice president of finance for Lord & Taylor.
Kenneth Wilkerson, chairman of Hecht's/Strawbridge's, will be succeeded by John Harper, currently senior vice president of finance for that division.
The earnings parade will resume early Tuesday with quarterly results from Blockbuster (BBI: Research, Estimates), Marriott (MAR: Research, Estimates) and Viacom (VIA.B: Research, Estimates), and after the closing bell, investors will hear reports from MetLife (MET: Research, Estimates), Priceline.com (PCLN: Research, Estimates) and Prudential (PRU: Research, Estimates).
Big-name earnings due later this week will include American International Group (AIG: Research, Estimates), Coca-Cola (KO: Research, Estimates), Dell (DELL: Research, Estimates) and Walt Disney Co. (DIS: Research, Estimates).
