Spy Gear Cargo Shorts will be sold for $29.50 at Gap Inc. (GPS: Research, Estimates)'s GapKids stores and come with a "micro listener" device with a sound dish, earbud and microphone or "night spyer" with a telescopic lens and focusing red beam.
A voice scrambler and motion alarm will be sold separately at GapKids stores. The items will be available April 23 in all GapKids stores in the United States, Canada, the UK, Japan and France.
This is San Francisco-based Wild Planet's first partnership with a retailer. The privately held toymaker recently drew attention in February when it said it would sell its interactive Aquapets exclusively at Toys R Us Inc. (TOY: Research, Estimates) stores until September before the toy is available at other retailers.
The move was cited as a way toymakers are working to support traditional toy stores, which have been losing market share to large discounters like Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (WMT: Research, Estimates)
