NEW YORK (CNN) -
General Mills, one of the nation's largest food marketing companies with brand names like Cheerios, Yoplait yogurt, and Pillsbury, recently raised prices on several of its signature products, a company spokeswoman told CNNfn.
"Prices on some of our ready-to-serve soups, yogurts, baking products, snack products and frozen yogurt products increased by two to nine percent on the varied products," Mary Beth Thoursgaard said.
"You have to remember though, these are the increases we charged to our distributors," Thoursgaard said. "How the food chains decide to charge the consumers is up to them" and is likely to vary depending upon where the consumer lives.
Thoursgaard cited increased energy and ingredient costs for the move. General Mills' (GIS: Research, Estimates) price hike for retailers went into effect June 5.
