NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - American Express has tapped comedian Ellen DeGeneres and actor Robert DeNiro to star in one of its largest advertising campaigns in recent years, said a newspaper report Friday.

Known for its long-time marketing association with funny-man Jerry Seinfeld, the credit card company will unveil its new "My life. My card." campaign next week, the New York Times reports.

DeGeneres will dance in one ad, and DeNiro will pay homage to New York City in another, said the report, adding that the DeNiro spot was directed by Martin Scorsese.

Print ads will be shot by Annie Liebovitz, who also created the portraits campaign for American Express featuring pictures of famous cardmembers including Tom Hanks, Tiger Woods and Woody Allen, the newspaper said.

"Ellen, Annie and Scorsese all collaborated and helped build the ad ideas," John Hayes, American Express chief marketing officer, told the New York Times.

"We belive we should get the best creative minds involved in our business-ad agencies and celebrities," Hayes said.

The campaign aims to promote the credit card company's new ability to offer cards aligned with banks, something Visa and MasterCard have done for years, the newspaper reported.
