NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Shares of Taser International Inc. fell 6 percent on Friday after a published report said a 54-year-old Chicago man died after police used a Taser stun gun to subdue him.

Even though the medical examiner's office has not concluded the cause of death, according to the Chicago Tribune, the Chicago Police Department is delaying its plan to distribute more Taser stun guns until further investigations were conducted.

Earlier this week, a 14-year-old boy went into cardiac arrest after a Chicago police sergeant shot him with a stun gun.

Police Superintendent Philip Cline said his department will put on hold plans to expand use of Taser stun guns but would not discontinue use of the 200 Tasers the department has now, the article said.

On Tuesday, the Scottsdale, Ariz.-based company reported a sharp rise in its fourth-quarter profit but missed Wall Street expectations by 2 cents.

Taser (Research) stock has lost more than half of its value since the beginning of 2005 as a few incidents have raised questions about the safety of its stun guns.  Top of page
