NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - If gas prices seem high, it's because they're within a hair of hitting a new record, according to the American Automobile Association.

The current average price for a gallon of unleaded gasoline is $2.053, according to AAA, putting it within one-tenth of a cent of the all-time high.

The highest recorded price is $2.054, reached May 26, 2004.  Top of page
